ASKHAM BRYAN, EAST YORKSHIRE
Nine Cumbria vans attended this rally following on from Northern Centres and Coniston Rallies. This is a nice venue set in woodland glades, handy for York. Most vans were on electrics (16 amp). Opening Flag on Tuesday night in evening sunshine. Wednesday was a visit to York with Alan and Betty, via ‘Park and Ride’. Evening was Bingo in the hall onsite and didn’t Cumbrians do well? All five Cumbria couples on one table scooped most of the prizes.
Thursday was a free day. In the evening seventeen of us (all Cumbrians) went out for a meal to ‘The Bay Horse Hotel’ in Fulford. An enjoyable meal and good company. Friday night was a ‘Race’ night (horseracing) and again Cumbrians knew how to pick the winners.
It was decided to hold ‘Final Flag’ on Saturday evening followed by ‘Play Your Cards Right’ and a music quiz. Sunday morning was an early start for us Cumbrians because the A1 was closed for roadworks and detours had to be made by most via Skipton and Settle, to the M6. I used the A19 via the Tyne Tunnel en route to Perth.
An enjoyable and for some, a profitable rally, with plenty of sunshine. Who got the first lucky van prize? Yes me!
